Will the Home Become the Healthcare Center of the Future?

Health hub

The home is a profoundly important environment where we live our lives and experience our most personal, emotional moments. Yet, though digital technology has radically altered our lifestyles, the home itself remains mostly the same. Perhaps not for long. In this HIT Consultant essay—adapted from a talk he gave at the 2015 USC Body Computing Conference—Stuart Karten paints a vivid vision for the home as the future platform for managing our health. Stuart believes that, through a combination of sensors, artificial intelligence, and holistic design, our homes will be able to seamlessly collect data from our bodies, activities, and devices to help us live longer and healthier lives.

“We want instant gratification, and we want things where we are—usually at home,” Stuart said. “Services are popping up that make goods and services available in the home (like Amazon Fresh) within the same day—sometimes even in minutes. I believe healthcare will be no different.”
