Strategic design achieves measurable business results.
Karten Design built Vessix Vascular’s identity from the ground up, name, logo, device, and interface, around a single idea: simplicity. Eighteen months later, the company sold for $425 million.

Built from the ground up, from name and logo to the physical device and its interface, around one advantage: simplicity.
The Situation
Renal denervation is a catheter-based outpatient treatment for resistant hypertension, a condition affecting as many as 9 million Americans. The client’s Vessix system performed this treatment faster than any other device on the market, setting a new gold standard.
But being the fastest wasn’t enough on its own. To move quickly toward commercialization in a competitive field, Vessix needed a real strategy for engaging both the medical community and investors, not just a good device.
The Solution
We designed a ground-up identity for Vessix Vascular, the company name and logo, the renal denervation system itself, all of it built to reinforce one advantage: simplicity. The device delivers treatment with the push of a single button. Its restrained form uses high-quality materials and finishes that are rare in medical devices, with texture and contrast that draw people in rather than feeling clinical and cold.
A full-color graphic interface reinforces that same simplicity, guiding users through the 30-second renal denervation procedure in just six screens. The result was excitement, from doctors, from investors, and ultimately from Boston Scientific, who acquired Vessix for $425 million within 18 months of the project starting.

A 30-second procedure, guided in six screens
The graphic interface mirrors the simplicity of the hardware itself, walking the clinician through the full procedure without ever feeling like they’re operating something complicated.
